Saul's Catharsis Moment

Image you are on your way to throw some heretical followers of "The Way" into prison. You are a zealot for the Jewish ways, totally convinced that what you are doing is in God will. Your whole life is dedicated to following the traditions laid down by godly men and you have no reason for doubting the validity of your convictions.

Until, you are stuck down on the way to the city of Damascus. And you recognize that the voice you are hearing is the one of the very Person you have been hunting. Acts 9:3-5

Not only that but you are struck blind, must be lead by the hand And quite possibly the very person you have been on your way to arrest is the one who prayers for you and calls you brother.

What a humiliating experience! Saul was completely sideswiped by Jesus. He discovered he couldn't have been more mistaken about Jesus. He was completely and spectacularly Wrong about Everything to do with Jesus.

How many people would be able to recover from an experience like this?

But Saul Did. He humbled himself before Ananias, was prayed for, recovered his sight, got baptized, having received the Holy Spirit, sat down to eat and then got straight on with preaching the gospel within a few days. It was a complete 180 degree turn.

This was a "Shattering of the Lies" experience like perhaps very few have known! We know that Saul became Paul, one of the most celebrated Apostles of all time. He suffered for Jesus but also understood many mysteries and taught them as maybe no other person has done in the history of the Way.

He was and is an exceptional Believer and Follower of Jesus. An amazing example of the ability to allow Jesus to completely renew and transform us from the inside out. He never forgot his conversion and referred to it many times in his letters.

Gal 1: 13-16 I'm sure that you have heard the story of my earlier life when I lived-in the Jewish way. In those days I went all out in persecuting God's Church. I was systematically destroying it. I was so enthusiastic about the traditions of my ancestors that I advanced head and shoulders above my peers in my career.
