Letters From God

Julie Andrews

Unity is meant to be "with God", not "with men". Not all religions united under a man - the Pope - but men united under God. Man is trying to achieve what only God can do - peace and prosperity. Yes it is a worthy goal. But pursued via the fleshly understanding of man it becomes an abomination, a travesty, compared to the achieving of it through the One True God. It is not many equaling one but one in the Spirit of God - not a physical joining but a spiritual joining.

The Truth set us free - Lies enslave us. Spiritual truth sets our spirit free but spiritual lies bind us. One to freely worship the God of the Bible, the other to set men's ideals on man's throne. Following our own thoughts and ideas and beliefs of who we image God is, is not following God but following a god made in our own image - a golden calf.

The Israelites melted down their gold given to then by the Egyptians, into an idol of their own making. In the presence of the Fire and the Cloud (the physical manifestation of God) they chose to return to their former lifestyle of worshiping idols. This was what they were familiar with. They had lived for 400 years in a pagan idol worshipping culture and they were indoctrinated in that lifestyle.

They chose to return to that understanding and mindset  at the earliest moment when Moses disappeared off the scene. He was up the mountain communing with God, and the Israelites got bored. They were used to working all the time, as slaves with no say in the matter. Left to their own devices they decided to make their own god, a familiar one and to celebrate it in the manner in which they were accustomed, like the Egyptians, with complete abandonment and no decorum.

Moses reaction of horror and unbelief was incomprehensible to them ... but! but! but! was Aaron's reaction. He and the Israelites didn't "get it". That the Living God had taken them under His wing and they were supposed to be a holy people to Him now. Divorced from their former life, not bringing it into the desert with them.

When we are made a new creation in Jesus we are to leave our old life behind to embrace a new and living way. God is patient with us to learn this new way but we need to be divorced from our old ways, which includes our own thinking, beliefs and ideas. They might match up in some areas but mostly we have entered a new foreign land (like the desert was to the Israelites). If we continue to cherish and nurture our own concepts and mindsets over what God reveals to us, we will be like the Israelites, not adapting to the new.

Making God in our own image is usually where we all start. He gradually changes us from the inside out with the help and guidance of His Holy Spirit, who leads us into the Truth and Righteousness of Jesus. So we gradually abandon our own ways to adopt His. And by doing so we are set free from our misconceptions to know His truth.

But if we don't change, we have made a god in our own image: our thoughts/ ideas/understanding. An idol. We are worshipping what We think God is, not Who He Truly Is. This is idolatry and it is rife in our world in the name of God. In a sense each one of us is worshipping a god of our own creation until we finally and truly come to know Him as He is.

It is a question of whether we are satisfied with our image, or are we always seeking His truth, His way, His life that we may be lead to the Father through the door of Jesus. If that is our goal then God is gracious towards our seeking and we find Him, in the fullness of Who He is. Which is so much greater than anything we can image.

Why would we chose our own image when we can know Him in all His Glorious Being?

"I AM the way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father except though Me." The most empathic statement ever made by an individual who has walked the earth. We know that He is not Mad, or Bad, But RIGHT! (John 14:6)

Lev 18:3 So do not act like the people in Egypt, where you used to live, or like the people of Canaan, where I am taking you. You must not imitate their way of life.

Jo 8:32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Duet 9:16 And I looked, and behold, you had sinned against the LORD your God. You had made yourselves a golden calf. You had turned aside quickly from the way that the LORD had commanded you

Isa 55:7-9 let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.For as the heavens are higher than the earth,so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Hab 2:18 “What good is an idol carved by man,
or a cast image that deceives you?
How foolish to trust in your own creation—
a god that can't even talk!

Jer 10:21The shepherds of my people have lost their senses.
They no longer seek wisdom from the LORD. Therefore, they fail completely, and their flocks are scattered.
Mat 6:33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

Rom 8:6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit
control your mind leads to life and peace.
